This paper reports on research carried out during spring 2008 into seven primary and nine secondary schools in England that had consistently closed or narrowed the attainment gap between boys and girls in English. The main research question was: If there are schools that have consistently closed or narrowed the gender gap between boys and girls in English, what are the factors that have led to their success?
