Practice guidance for setting the standards for learning, development
and care for children from 0–5 years. Provides guidance for
practitioners on meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation
Stage (EYFS) framework. Aims to provide useful advice and detailed
information on supporting children’s learning and development and
welfare. This resource replaces 00012-2007BKT-EN and is
part of orderable pack 00261-2008PCK-EN, Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a comprehensive framework
which sets the standards for learning, development and care of children
from birth to five. (This pack is a revised version of Ref: 00012-2007PCK-EN.)
The EYFS framework builds on and has now replaced the
existing statutory Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage, the
non-statutory Birth to Three Matters framework, and the regulatory
frameworks in the National Standards for Under 8s Day Care and

The Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS is ‘the statutory framework for all those working with children from birth to five’ (DCSF, 2008) which sets out the principles and practice required for effective provision. The IDP materials provide detailed support for practitioners to give due consideration to children's behavioural, emotional and social needs in their implementation of the EYFS. The EYFS package (booklets, posters, cards and CD: Ref: 00261-2008 PCK-EN) should be used alongside these materials.
